Gun Laws

Is it legal to sell guns on the Internet? Yes it is as long as you follow some very important guidelines. Generally, if you can legally own a firearm, then you can sell it here. You do not have to be a licensed firearm dealer to do so. However, you must be in compliance with all local, state and federal laws when doing so. Here is how it works. You place your gun for sale on the site. Someone agrees to buy it and then you must send it to them. Firearms may only be shipped to a licensed FFL dealer. We maintain a list of dealers in a database. Click here to find a dealer. Another excellent list can be found at Shotgun News.

Sellers: to verify that your buyer has provided you with a valid FFL number, you may check it against the ATF's list. The ATF FFL form is used to verify the FFL license that your buyer has sent to you. Before you can ship a firearm to a buyer, they buyer must mail you a copy of their FFL dealer license signed in blue or red ink. You can only ship to the address with the license. To prevent persons from forging a license, you may validate the license by going to the ATF site by clicking on the link below. If this process tells you that the license is expired or invalid, you must call the BATF licensing center to verify the license. Failure to do so may result in you illegally shipping a firearm, which is a felony. This form validates commercial FFL licenses only. If you are shipping Curios and Relics, this type of license cannot be validated there. You must contact your local BATF office to verify a C&R license.
